2 days tour from Ouarzazate to Erg lihoudi desert itinerary:

Day 1: Ouarzazate – M’hamid El Ghizlane
Your morning journey begins at 08:30 as you head south over the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass in the Anti-Atlas Mountains towards Agdez. As you descend, you’ll be greeted by the vast expanse of the oasis below, where extensive palm groves stretch along the Dra’a Valley, home to an incredible 44 varieties of dates. The date harvest starts as early as September and continues for a couple of months, making this the perfect time to buy the freshest dates. You will then drive away from the main road, following the ancient caravan route. Soon, you will arrive at the village of Tinsouline, where you can take a short off-road detour to view the fascinating rock carvings of animals that once roamed Morocco—these carvings at Foum Chenna are approximately 4,000 years old. Your next stop is Zagora, the largest town in the area, where you’ll pause for lunch. As you leave the town, take a moment to look back from a small pass and admire the vast Zagora oasis. In the afternoon, you will continue your journey south to M’hamid, the gateway to the desert and the end of the paved road—this marks the beginning of the Sahara. Here, you’ll embark on a camel ride to your camp, where you can enjoy an unforgettable sunset. After dinner, immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of the desert with nomadic music around the campfire, as the stars twinkle overhead, almost within reach. A stargazing app on your phone will help you identify the constellations. You will dine and spend the night at a luxurious desert camp featuring a private bathroom, king-sized beds, and beautifully arranged Moroccan furnishings and lamps, all designed to enhance your appreciation of the serene beauty of the dunes.
Day 1: M’hamid El Ghizlane – Ouarzazate
Awakening early, you can witness the stunning sunrise over the Sahara Desert, watching as the colors of the dunes and the interplay of shadows gradually transform. After breakfast, you'll have the opportunity for a long walk in the dunes before departing the camp. Following breakfast, you'll rejoin the paved road and head north to the village of Tamegroute. Here, you’ll explore the local pottery cooperatives, famous for their distinctive green glaze pottery found throughout the south and in Marrakech. It’s captivating to visit these workshops and discover how local clay is crafted into unique pieces, showcasing the region’s rich artisanal heritage. The village also features a small medina with winding desert streets and an ancient Quranic library housing exquisite hand-written Arabic texts, which you may choose to visit. Continuing north, you’ll reach the Kasbah Tamnougalte, located just outside Agdez. This is one of the oldest Kasbahs in southern Morocco and the oldest in the Dra’a Valley. While some areas of the Kasbah are still inhabited, others, including the Jewish quarter, have become crumbling and abandoned, reflecting its long and fascinating history. Back on the paved road, you will cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains, arriving in Ouarzazate by late afternoon. Your driver will then transfer you to your hotel, marking the conclusion of your Saharan adventure.
